The Bible is very clear that as Christians we are bought with the precious price of Jesus’ blood and that we are no longer our own (I Cor. 6:19-20). Most of us lift our heads and at least give nodding assent to this truth before we once again bury our heads in the circumstances of our lives.
Hold up! There’s more!
Now, because we are bought with a great price and brought into God’s family, we suddenly have dual citizenship, our primary one being in heaven!
Paradigm shift: Not only has your citizenship changed but your role and purpose in life has radically changed! You have a new title and a new job!
Because you are not your own and because you are God’s property, he has arranged for a special position for you. You are now an Ambassador for Christ (2 Cor. 5:20) and the focus of your life work is now reconciliation – bringing the lost world to Jesus.
The advantages of being an ambassador is that all your needs are taken care of by the kingdom who sent you on the assignment. Have you ever heard of a foreign ambassador going to a host country and getting a job because they couldn’t afford a place to live or food to eat or what they needed to do their job? No! God’s provision for you while you are in His service has been promised and God never – I mean never- breaks a promise!
How does this work? Practically speaking it works like this: every morning you wake up with your agenda for the day. An Ambassador for Christ lifts that agenda up to God and says something like this: “Father, this is what I have on my schedule for today, but if you have other plans, please show me what to do.” I’ve prayed this prayer for years and it has never gotten me in trouble with a client nor have I failed to meet a deadline.
What changed was the pressure release that comes from realizing that I’m working for God! My Father pays my salary and my bills! I don’t have to get into salary disputes, worries about commissions or whatever. God has it covered. I work for him; I get my assignments from him, I follow his lead. All is well.
It is the most freeing shift in your thinking you may ever experience. Not only does God give you a position – you are an ambassador for Christ– BUT He is your SOURCE for everything you need (Phil. 4:19).
If you will take off the God mantle, (i.e. I am the sole provider for my family; if I don’t do it, it won’t get done; everyone depends on me; I am the only one who works around here), and put on your ambassador mantle, (i.e. I work for God, He gives me my assignments, I listen to Him, do what he wants, and He supplies all my needs according to His resources which are endless), there is a very different outcome.
This perspective will get you out the door with confidence and faith and bring you home with joy in your heart. God is good.
